Vimeo Festival: Preparations now underway by Vimeo Festival + Awards
Andrea recently checked in with Josh and Vinny to see how preparations are going for their Vimeo Festival workshop, “Impossible Things On A Shoestring.” Let’s just say they still have a bit of work to do.

You’ve got opinions, right? Because at this moment, we really want to hear them. We just unfurled the shortlists for the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards, and public voting is officially open! We kindly exhort you to watch a gaggle of great videos and help us figure out which are the greatest. It’s ridiculously easy:
1. Go to the voting page >
2. Select a category that entices you
3. Watch all the videos in that category
4. Vote for the one that moves you most. You can vote once per day per category between now and April 30, so if there are videos you especially adore, give ‘em lots of votes!
Finally, we’d never forgive ourselves if we didn’t tell you that tickets for the Vimeo Festival + Awards are now available. Our sorta-annual shindig takes place June 7-9 in NYC, and you can be there for the unveiling of the world’s best videos, plus get involved in our manifold conversations, workshops, and screenings. It’s one part film festival, one part tech meetup, one part educational conference, and one part flying trapeze act. We hope to see you there! Get tix >
This is what I’ve been working very hard on this past few weeks. Please vote!!
Thomas Newman - The Bright Young Man
While Revolutionary Road wasn’t one of my favorite movies, this song is amazing.
Caine’s Arcade by Nirvan Mullick
Awesome kid alert! Nine-year-old Caine created his own elaborate arcade using cardboard boxes and his imagination. We definitely want to adopt this little dude, but we’ll settle for a Fun Pass.
Dan Deacon - Surprise Stefani
I’m all into the building tension/fast beats kinda music this week.
Dntel - Dumb Luck
You interest your friends
They will betray you
With the love that’s blinding
And then at the end they may admit
That you were missing something
And no one remembers even one word that left your mouth
All the melodies were stolen
From songs by someone else
Househunters audio collage
Put on your headphones and feel the stereophonic first-world problems.
This show has magic powers
Catching Up With Eliot Rausch, Documentary Judge
After winning the Grand Prize and accompanying $25,000 grant at the 2010 Vimeo Festival + Awards, director Eliot Rausch partnered with producer Mark Schwartz and the Dreamers of Los Angeles to create “LIMBO,” a 19-minute film that explores the lives of three undocumented students living in the U.S. The students, none of whom had made films previously, were given small cameras and asked to shoot their surroundings every day for three months. Through their lenses, these are their stories.
We’re honored to premiere “LIMBO” at the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards!
Can’t wait for this!
Meet Experimental Judge Chris Beckman
After winning the Experimental category at our last Vimeo Festival + Awards, Chris Beckman returns this year as a judge. Chris’ winning video “oops” was created entirely from video clips involving dropped cameras, and went on to be an Official Selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. We spoke to Chris to find out how his Festival + Awards experience affected his career. (Spoiler alert: It helped.)
